What began as an argument quickly turned into a touching moment of learning and understanding when two opposing sides managed to see past their differences.
It all began when Trump supporter Michael Beatty commented on a tweet posted by actor Patton Oswalt.
Oswalt had just tweeted another criticism of President Trump when Beatty retorted, “I just realized why I was so happy you died in ‘Blade Trinity’!”
The conversation started to degrade as the two took additional Twitter jabs at one another.
But then something amazing happened.
While combing Beatty’s profile (probably for ammunition) Oswalt discovered that not only was Beatty a Vietnam veteran, but that he was also suffering from recent and severe medical issues.
Probably preferring not to look like a jerk, Oswald then made this generous declaration: “Aw, man. This dude just attacked me on Twitter and I joked back but then I looked at his timeline and he’s in a LOT of trouble health-wise. I’d be pissed off too. He’s been dealt some s**tty cards — let’s deal him some good ones. Click and donate — just like I’m about to.”
Since then Beatty’s GoFundMe page has raised over $31,000, much higher than it’s $5,000 goal.
Beatty thanked Oswalt, admitting that he had “humbled me to the point where I can barely compose my words.”
Here’s hoping to more interactions that led to understanding and support from political opposites.
