Politicians on both sides of the spectrum found something they could agree on, Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar has crossed the line.
Omar came under fire after alluding that Repbulican’s support for Israel is “all about the Benjamins.” Just in case that wasn’t enough, Omar made things worse by suggesting that the lobbying group the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is the one paying Republicans off.
While this isn’t the first time Omar has stirred strong feelings with her remarks, this instance did earn a response from both Republicans and Democrats alike.
Democratic Rep. Max Rose said, “Congresswoman Omar’s statements are deeply hurtful to Jews, including myself.”
Another Dem, Rep. Donna Shalala, called the implication “offensive and wrong.”
Meanwhile Republican Rep. Liz Cheney called for Omar to be removed “immediately.”
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy shared, “anti-Semitic tropes have no place in the halls of Congress.”
However the most scathing rebuke came in a series of 11 tweets from former U.S. ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro.
