The Conservative Political Action Conference brought a surprising insight this year as to who is causing the most trouble for Republicans.
Where once the crowd was known to hear the name Hillary Clinton and immediately raise a chorus of “lock her up,” Clinton’s name was regarded as more of a foot note this year.
Likewise Nancy Pelosi, as Speaker of the House, seems like a shoe to be called the biggest thorn to conservatives. But her name was barely mentioned at all.
As 2019 picks up steam the CPAC made one thing very clear, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the new designated threat to the Republican party.
From her touting of the “Green New Deal” to defending rights for illegal immigrants, AOC has been at the center of many recent conflicts between parties.
The New York Democrat also seems to have a weak grasp on government, finances and how the world works in general. This coupled with her vast social media reach has put her at the forefront of problem Democrats.
While he didn’t call her by name, even Vice President Pence noted the threat AOC poses when he condemned the growing socialist movement.
“The moment America becomes a socialist country is the moment America ceases to be America,” he said.
But with more attention comes more scrutiny, the freshman congresswoman had best hope that she doesn’t drop the ball. Politics can be very fickle, after all.
